There’s more than one reason we love Air Canada Aeroplan. Not only can you turn several transferable currencies into Aeroplan points at a 1:1 ratio, but thanks to the program’s award chart, you can redeem Aeroplan points for Air Canada and partner flights all over the world at reasonable rates.
This week, we found great rates on Aeroplan redemptions to Egypt’s Cairo International Airport (CAI): 40,000 points each way in economy and 70,000 points each way in business class. The nonstop flights, operated by Egyptair, come with reasonable fees in both economy and business class: 82 Canadian dollars (roughly $59) on the way there, and at most 156 Canadian dollars (roughly $113) coming home.
We found wide-open availability between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and CAI from September through February, as well as more limited availability between Washington, D.C.’s Dulles International Airport (IAD) and CAI. But even if you’re not based in New York or Washington, you still may be able to take advantage of this deal to Egypt — here’s how.
Note that prices and availability were accurate at the time of writing.

How to find and book TPG’s deal of the day
We used the time-saving Seats.aero tool to quickly find award availability between the U.S. and Cairo (just enter “USA” into the origin or destination box to search for major U.S. airports). This tool makes it easy to see which dates are available; however, it unfortunately does not display connecting itineraries for these routings.

Once you find your dates, head to Air Canada’s website to confirm award availability.

If your home base isn’t JFK, EWR or IAD, you may be able to find connecting flights to Cairo — but it will likely cost you more points. For example, you could fly from Denver to Cairo with a layover in Munich for 55,000 Aeroplan points one-way in economy or 90,000 points in business class. The same is true for a flight from Boston to Cairo via Toronto.
Instead, it could be worth booking a positioning flight to JFK, EWR or IAD to take advantage of this deal.

Bottom line
If the pyramids are on your bucket list, this could be the perfect opportunity to fly to Egypt on a budget (and, potentially, in comfort). For a nonstop flight of 10-plus hours, 40,000 points each way is a solid deal for economy, and 70,000 points for a lie-flat seat is even better. And considering the cash prices of these nonstop flights, this deal offers stellar value for your points.
We’ve seen plenty of availability in both directions across the next several months, from September to February, which is a great time to visit Egypt. Winter is the most popular travel season because temperatures are at their coolest, and the fall shoulder season tends to have thinner crowds and cheaper hotel rates.
