Act by April 1: Why I jumped at the chance to get Hyatt Globalist in an easy new challenge

Fresh off of losing Hyatt Globalist status in February and resigning myself to the reality of lower-level status with World of Hyatt (RIP free full breakfast, suite upgrades and 4 p.m. late check-out), an amazing opportunity just presented itself to get Hyatt’s top status until 2025.

Bilt Rewards is offering a chance to earn Hyatt Globalist status with 20 nights instead of the usual 60 if you register by April 1 and complete the stays from April 17 – July 16. That by itself would be attention-worthy, but it is especially good timing as you can stack on the new Hyatt bonus points promotion, Bonus Journeys, which is now underway. With that promotion, every two nights after your first stay (after your first stay during the pomo) awards 3,000 bonus points, for up to 30 nights.

Theoretically, if you completed 20 eligible nights at a Category 1 Hyatt on 3,500 points per night to earn Hyatt Globalist until Feb. 2025 via the Bilt promo, that would cost you 70,000 World of Hyatt points. However, if you earn 3,000 bonus points every two nights (after the first stay), you could ultimately 27,000 bonus Hyatt points, which means your out-of-pocket points cost for earning Globalist could be as low as 43,000 points.

TPG values 43,000 Hyatt points at $731, but TPG values Hyatt Globalist status at a much higher rate of $4,950.

Exact valuation aside, World of Hyatt Globalist is one of my absolute favorite statuses. Last year, I used a suite upgrade courtesy of Hyatt Globalist status at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome and scored a suite on a points redemption of just 40,000 World of Hyatt points per night when it was selling for thousands of dollars per night.

I also used World of Hyatt points at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile. My Globalist status got me into the fabulous Regency Club, with sweeping views of the City of Lights and the Eiffel Tower in the distance (oh, and ‘free’ food).

Unfortunately, I did not re-qualify for Globalist in 2023 at the regular 60-night threshold and dropped down to Explorist status. But with this new challenge, that won’t last long.

How to enroll

In case you missed it, Bilt members can register for an incredible 90-day World of Hyatt trial. Anyone can become a Bilt member with no cost or credit card required.

Once you do that, you only have until April 1 to enroll in this challenge. Then during a 90-day trial that begins on April 17, you can earn World of Hyatt status that will last through February 2025. You get Explorist status by staying 10 qualifying nights and top-tier Globalist status by staying 20 qualifying nights.

You can enroll even if you don’t have the Bilt Mastercard® (see rates and fees).Don’t forget to join the World of Hyatt program if you’re not already a member.

Once that’s done, you’ll receive confirmation that you enrolled in the trial. Bilt promises everyone will be notified with details by then.

During the challenge, you’ll get World of Hyatt Explorist perks during the challenge until July 16. A key details is that award nights qualify, and current elite members are eligible.

Note you won’t earn Hyatt milestone rewards unless you stay the required number of nights for those milestones. For example, to unlock a Hyatt category 1 – 7 award night, you’ll still need to stay the full 60 nights in 2023 required for that award.

Stacking the Bonus Journeys promotion

Under the previously mentioned Bonus Journeys promotion that runs until May 26 — in addition to the 3,000 points awarded every two nights after the first stay, if you have the World of Hyatt Credit Card or World of Hyatt Business Credit Card — you can earn 500 bonus points every two nights you stay at participating hotels in 10 select cities, up to 30 nights (or 7,500 total bonus points).

The cities eligible for the 500-bonus-points promotion are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris, Tokyo and Washington, D.C. You must be booked under a qualifying rate. Unlike the broader offer, this one kicks in on the first stay.

Bottom line

Lucrative and fun promotions aren’t very common these days, but this promo is enough to put a smile on my face and get me serious about booking some trips.

Despite a recent devaluation, World of Hyatt remains, in my opinion, the most lucrative hotel loyalty programs out there. I’m looking forward to again basking in the warm glow of World of Hyatt Globalist status.
