Virgin Atlantic is offering 33% off redemptions from all destinations in all cabins

Editor’s note: This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information and offers.

Virgin Atlantic has a great new Black Friday offer to help you save thousands of points on your next redemption.

Virgin has discounted the cost of all redemptions on all Virgin-operated routes by 33% for travel from Nov. 24, 2023, until Sept. 30, 2024, but you must book by Nov. 27, 2023. The carrier follows Air France—KLM’s Flying Blue Promo Rewards and Singapore Airlines’ Spontaneous Escapes.

The offer isn’t quite as generous as the deal we saw in 2022, which offered a 50% reduction in the Virgin points required for redemptions to almost all destinations.

However, the new offer does provide a generous 33% off the cost of redemptions across all classes of service, and there are no blackout dates for almost 12 months.

As a reminder, Virgin Atlantic operates between London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) and the following U.S. airports:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
  • Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)
  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA)
  • New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
  • Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
  • Tampa International Airport (TPA)
  • Washington, D.C.’s Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Virgin Atlantic’s routes from New York, Atlanta, Las Vegas and Orlando to Manchester Airport (MAN) are also included — as is the nonstop flight from Orlando to Edinburgh Airport (EDI).

From London, Virgin also flies to South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria and India, among other destinations.

The discounts apply to flights in any direction and in any cabin with award availability. This offer is available for redemptions, upgrades and companion tickets.

Virgin Atlantic must operate the flight for your redemption to qualify for the promotion.

Round-trip redemptions start from just 13,400 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club points from the East Coast or 20,000 points from the West Coast. You’ll see the points discount applied when booking online.

Unfortunately, the full fees, taxes and substantial surcharges are payable on all routes in all cabins.

Unlike British Airways, there is no way to reduce the carrier-imposed surcharges by redeeming more points. Even in economy, you can expect to pay hundreds of dollars extra; in business class, the total is more than $1,000 round trip. These surcharges remain the biggest frustration with the Flying Club program.

To take advantage of this great offer, you must book by Nov. 27. Sadly, the discount does not apply to existing bookings. You may consider canceling and rebooking if your existing flight falls within the eligibility window. However, availability is not guaranteed.

If you need to earn Virgin points for one of these awards, you can transfer them from American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Capital One, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Citi ThankYou Rewards. These transfers process at a 1:1 ratio and should post instantaneously to your Virgin account.

This great initiative from Flying Club is generous, given it covers all routes in all classes. Just be mindful of those pesky surcharges when booking.
